Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)
& Jaw / Face Slimming

Chronic Teeth grinding and jaw clenching (medically known as bruxism) can cause pain, headaches, earache and also causes the teeth to become worn down over time. This is caused by over engagement of our facial muscle called the masseter that moves the jaw, but genetics also play a part. This muscle plays a major role in the chewing of solid foods. It sits towards the back of the jaw, it connects to the mandible (lower jawbone) and the cheekbone. You can feel the muscle pulsate if you place your hands at the side of your jaw and bite down.

The masseter muscle can become enlarged in patients who habitually clench or grind their teeth and even in those who constantly chew gum. The more this muscle is activated the larger and stronger it becomes, just like if you trained your bicep at the gym. This can cause the lower face to become wider, appearing bulky or more masculine and square in shape.

By injecting small doses of toxin directly into the masseter muscle, the muscle is weakened enough to stop involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw. This significantly relaxes the muscle reducing the wear and tear on the teeth and the other associated side effects. Additionally as the muscle is significantly less active it therefore weakens and shrinks, slimming and feminising the lower face.
