Most dermal fillers these days are made from a crystal clear gel form of hyaluronic acid (HA); a substance that occurs naturally in the body. HA holds water; therefore naturally hydrating giving volume to the skin. HA fillers are a lot safer than the old time fillers such as collagen. This is because HA can be broken down by the body over time, be dissolved in a medical emergency or in the rare case that a client is not satisfied with the end result then treatment can also be reversed.
As we we age the production of hyaluronic acid diminishes causing volume loss, this paired with loss of elasticity causes sagging of the skin. This reduction in hyaluronic acid production also causes skin to become dehydrated forming wrinkles.
Using HA fillers we can; revitalise skin, restore a youthful appearance, smooth wrinkles, restore volume, enhance your facial shape, add contours and definition, create harmony and balance to facial structures and improve facial proportions & profile. It provides instant and long-lasting aesthetic results.
Areas that can be treated
Mid face volume - as we age our cheeks and fat pads in the face shrink & become deflated. This paired with loss of elastin (that would normally hold these pads and structures in place) causes the pads to slide down the face resulting in a sagging appearance. Restoring this volume loss and adding structural support creates a lift and plumping that rejuvenates not just the whole mid face but it also helps target ageing of the lower face too.
Cheek bone contour - not to replace volume loss but to sculpt the cheekbones and add definition and height to the upper, lateral area of the face for a feminine and contoured look
Temple filler - as we age our temples hallow & cave in causing a dip, HA filler can restore this concave & volume loss. It also acts as scaffolding to elevate the lateral eyebrow and balances the transition in contours from the mid face to the upper face.
Under eye/ tear trough - hollowness under the eyes, can make us appear older and tired and the eyes appear sunken. We can subtly hydrate and smooth this area with a soft, light, thin HA filler to awaken & freshen this area
Non surgical rhino - to straighten depressions or bumps on bridge of nose and correct a hooked or drooping nasal tip.
Nasolabial folds/ smile lines - to soften nose to mouth lines by adding volume and hydration
Marrionettes/ jowls - improve sagging and volume loss at mouth corners or mouth to chin lines by adding structural support and hydration
Chin filler - to improve a retracted chin and balance facial proportions and profile, to round and feminise the chin in females or square and define in males
Jawline - to add definition and sharpness, improves sagging and reduce jowl formation.
Lips - adding definition to lip boarder & cupids bow, add volume for fuller lips, improve symmetry and shape, to restore hydration to wrinkled lips and lip lines.
Treatment & Longevity
Whilst performing dermal filler treatment we can use multiple techniques and different methods to inject the dermal filler. We can inject filler with a Needle or use a cannula depending on treatment area and desired outcome, both provide a great deal of precision and accuracy. A cannula is a small, blunt tube that is used under the skin so that no needles or sharp edges can pierce any important blood vessels. Therefore making the procedure safer and causing less trauma so reducing chances of bruising, pain is also minimal. A thorough consultation and assessment is always carried out before all treatments to check suitability for treatment, to discuss risks and expectations of outcomes. If suitable, topical numbing cream is always used on treatment area before injecting and all products have a numbing agent mixed into the HA filler syringe to make the injecting process as comfortable as possible. A stress ball will also be provided to squeeze and also a vibrata distraction tool available for those who want to avail of same. After treatment arnica gel and a cold pack will be applied while after care is discussed. Onset of action is immediate but improves once swelling subsides and filler settles. Results last 6-18months on average depending on individual metabolism, lifestyle factors, area treated, type and amount of filler used.
Aftercare
No makeup for 12 hours after dermal fillers
If any small lumps occur after lip filler immediately massage firmly with clean hands
Use cold compresses on treatment area for 5-10 minute intervals every hour to reduce swelling
Take an antihistamine to help reduce swelling reaction post treatment
Apply Arnica cream or gel to treatment area if bruised
No spectacles or sunglasses to rest on bridge of nose for 48hrs post non surgical rhino
At night try to have head slightly elevated and lie on back if possible 48hrs after facial fillers
Avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, sunbeds and heat until any swelling and redness has subsided minimum 72 hrs Avoid Blood thinners & NSAIDs such as: Aspirin, ibuprofen & Naproxen for at least 48 hrs post treatment
Side Effects
As with many cosmetic and medical treatments, side effects are always a risk therefore these must always be discussed and considered. Although severe side effects are very rare, it is still important to be aware of these before consenting with treatment. Normal side effects include bleeding, bruising, swelling, slight pain, redness, burning or stinging around injection sites. Rare side effects which will be discussed on the day and ways to manage or prevent them include lumps, asymmetry, coldsores, infection, necrosis, embolism, blindness, allergy & anaphylaxis.
