Milia or Blackhead Extraction
Milia are small, white bumps or cysts typically found on the face (usually around the eyes and on the cheeks). They form when keratin and dead skin cells become trapped beneath the surface of your skin. Milia found around the eye area can also be caused by heavy creams.
Blackheads are small, dark spots that appear on the surface of the skin. They occur when your skin produces excess oil which gets trapped in the skin with bacteria, it is then oxidised when exposed.
The best treatments for milia and blackheads are: professional extractions, superficial peels and professional skin care products.
Milia treatment- Professional Extraction can be performed for milia on it’s own and only takes in a few minutes at a low cost price. However, it is recommended to treat with an Epionce light refresh peel before professional extraction to help soften milia and provide a gentle exfoliation. Epionce peels are also recommended for maintenance to try and prevent Milia and blackheads reoccurring.
Blackhead treatment - Blackheads should never be removed by picking, squeezing or popping because it will cause inflammation and potential scarring. Steam is used as an effective way to open the pores, it also helps soften trapped sebum or dead skin cells (blackheads) under the pores. Then gentle suction with a pore vacuum machine is used to suck the congestion causing the blackhead out clearing the pores. However, it is also recommended for best results to follow with an Epionce Peel. Peels also clear blackheads by gently exfoliating, removing dead skin cells therefore clearing congestion and allowing healthy skin to be revealed.
Professional Extraction - this is the best way to get rid of stubborn Milia by using a sterile needle to create an incision in the skin, making way for careful extraction.
Superficial peels - containing AHAs and BHAs, including glycolic and salicylic acid, provide accelerated, chemical exfoliation without the need to aggressively scrub your skin. Epionce light refresh peels are non-abrasive, they only lift off the top layer of skin, ensuring the skin is 'clean and fresh.’ This means they deliver maximum effect with minimum disruption to the skin so no downtime and no recovery time required.
Professional skin care - Topical products that include AHA’s such as salicylic acid clean out pores and kill the bacteria that causes blackheads and breakouts. Epionce Lytic gel cleanser, Epionce Lytic Tx Sport and Epionce renewal lotion are recommended to try to prevent and reduce blackheads. The Lytic products clean skin deep-down without disrupting its delicate moisture barrier. They successfully purify congested pores of excess sebum, dirt, debris and dead cells while successfully balancing skin's pH level at the surface to keep problematic skin manageable. These powerful perfecting agents work to remove harmful bacteria and blockages from deep within the pores while soothing irritation to help combat blemish-induced inflammation. Then to finish use an Epionce Renewal product which deeply penetrates through the skin barrier to reach targeted cells to strengthen, repair and fortify the skin.
